FC Goa fined 11 crores; docked 15 points next season

The franchise that had finished second best in the last edition of ISL, has been punished for their role in the post-finale fracas.

The Indian Super League (ISL) regulatory commission has come down heavily on FC Goa as it pronounced that the franchise will be docked 15 points in the next edition of the competition for their callous actions after the final of the tournament.

The side has been imposed been a fine of Rs. 11 crores while Shrinivas Dempo and Dattaraj Salgaocar, the two owners of the team, have been handed long-term suspensions. While Salgaocar has been banned for three years, Dempo has been given a two-year ban.

Retired high court justices DA Mehta and BN Mehta, former Mumbai DGP D Sivanandan, ex-India cricketer Kiran More and sports law expert Vidhushpat Singhania were part of the commission that slapped the outfit with such a heavy punishment.

“In the final order pronounced today, FC Goa were found in breach of ISL regulations/code of conduct bringing disrepute to ISL, following the unfortunate incident on 20th December 2015 soon after the Hero ISL final at Fatorda Stadium, Goa,” a press release sent by the organizing body of the league read.

“The regulatory commission memebers were unanimous in arriving at the verdict,” it further stated.

While 10 crores of that fine will go to Football Sports Development Ltd (FSDL), the corporate entity that oversees Reliance Industries Ltd ‘s(RIL) interests in the field of football, the remaining one crore will be received by Chennaiyin FC who came out champions on that night.

“All the parties have the option to exercise their right to appeal under the ISL rules to the ISL Appeals Panel comprising of Hon’ble former Chief Justice of Bombay High Court Kshitij R Vyas,” the release from the ISL added.

In March this year, the AIFF Disciplinary Committee charged FC Goa under disciplinary code’s article 53 (team misconduct), article 58 (offensive behaviour) and article 60 (threats).

“FC Goa has been fined Rs 50 lakhs (which is to be paid within 10 days) for not attending the post match presentation ceremony of the ISL Final 2015,” read a statement issued by the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
