Mohun Bagan put one foot into the final of the 2016 Hero Federation Cup after Hero Indian Super League stars Jeje Lalpekhlua and Sony Norde maintained their brilliant form to hand the Mariners a resounding 5-0 victory over Shillong Lajong FC in the first leg of their semi-final clash at the Barasat Stadium in West Bengal on Sunday.
Lalpekhlua and Norde were once again in the thick of things after the duo combined superbly to make it a comfortable 7-2 aggregate win for Mohun Bagan against Salgaocar FC over the two legs of their quarter final encounter. Lalpekhlua found his name on the scoresheet against Salgaocar in both legs, having netted a brace in the first leg and another in the second leg. Haitian winger Norde also featured heavily in his side’s demolition of Salgaocar as he netted a brace of his own in the second leg against the Goan team, while also providing an assist.
The talismanic duo of Lalpekhlua and Norde showed no sign of slowing down during the first leg of Mohun Bagan’s semi-final match against Shillong Lajong FC as Lalpekhlua scored a hat-trick and Norde was at his electrifying best to carve open goal-scoring opportunities at will. The dynamic duo will be licking their lips again ahead of their second leg with the Meghalayan team, who will be looking to overturn their massive 5-0 first-leg deficit in front of their home support at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong on Saturday.
