Chennaiyin FC took on Kerala Blasters FC in the first South Indian Derby of the season.
Chennaiyin FC and Kerala Blasters FC played for a goal less draw in today’s encounter of The Hero ISL season 3 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai.
Both the teams are happy with a point each and making no change the positions on the points table. Chenniyin FC stay on 4th and Kerala Blasters FC on 5th with 9 points each. But Chennaiyins have the advantage with the games played when compared to Kerala. Chennaiyin have played 6 and Kerala 7 with today’s draw. Marina Arena was packed with over 23 thousand supporters chanting for Abhishek and Sachin.
Chennaiyin FC kicked off the game with aggressive and attacking note as the first shot on target came in from Dudu very early in 2nd min, which was perhaps saved by the visiting keeper, Sandeep Nandy which bounced away from his chest which was eventually cleared. Both the team’s defense stayed tight and it was unable to either teams to break through. Chennaiyins kept their attacking phase on and made few good chances. Agusto being the paly maker in most of the time, and Kerala marquee Aaron Hughes being the rescuer for the visitors. Eli Sabia’s header was cleared off the line from Baljit’s corner and a rebound shot of Davide Succi’s cross was also cleared. Both the teams had chances which were not converted to goals.
Soon Mulder had to come off because of an injury with around 20 mins for half time, and was replaced by Manuele Blasi. With 10 mins remaining for the half time, Chopra and Rafi created few chances combining together. Both the shots were safely taken by Karanjit and made sure that the scores stay 0-0 at half time.
Early in the second half, Succi found himself one on one on the ball against Nandy, but was flagged offside. Then Sandesh Jhingan tried for a counter attack but was stopped by Wadoo duly. In the 57th min, Kervens Belfort’s shot past close to the post for Josu Currais’s cross ending in a goal-kick. Hughes was also taken off due to injury. Rafique able to make perfect cross to Belfort, but he wasted the best chance of the night putting it wide away from the goal.
Rafi was then substituted for Duckens Nazon, whose cracker shot was denied by Karranjit as he was in the right position to grab it. Kerala Blaters FC came close in 87th min with Belfort which was again cleanly denied by Karanjit. The save resulted for a corner. Corner was poorly cleared, only as far as Rafique who took the last shot on goal, but went wide. The battle ended in a goal less draw with both teams sharing a point each.
At full-time score was, CFC 0-0 KBFC.
Next encounter will be in between FC Goa and Delhi Dynamos FC in Goa .
