Mohun Bagan hosted Churchill Brothers at Barasat Stadium here on Sunday in Kolkata in their first match of the Hero I-League season 10.
Mohun Bagan defeated Churchill Brothers with the score line of 1-0 with just ten men on field.
Game kicked off with Bagan on good hold of the ball. In the 20th min, visiting team captain, Keenan Almeida, was stretchered off as he picked up a head injury and was bleeding on his way off. Even after the injury, he was back on the field few mins later with bandaged forehead. Finally in the 28th min, home side got the break through with a perfect cross from the right wing by Pritam Kotal and a perfect header by Balwant Singh. Few mins later, Surchandra Singh and U-22 player Kinglsey Fernandes seemed dangerous on the Bagan goal, but were stopped by the defense line at the box. At half time Sehnaj Singh picked up a yellow for unnecessarily pushing Aniston Fernandes to the ground, and the score line remained 1-0 in favor of the home side.
Soon in the second half, Duffy had a one-on-one chance, but was in tight angle to score, so passed the ball to Katsumi who delayed his shot and failed to finish. The follow through pass came to Balwant who passed it to Sehnaj, but shot it wide resulting in a goal kick for the visitors. Souvik Chakraborty was next to try his luck on the goal, but he side-netted the shot.
The home side were brought down to ten men when Subhashish Bose received his marching orders on second yellow card of the day. Bose try to tackle Seriton Fernandes who was on the run. Eventually Bose pushed him, which resulted in the second yellow. Bose was booked previously for a tackle on skipper Almeida.
The action went on with the visiting side looking for a equalizer and the home side looking for a two goal lead. But both the teams were unable to change the scores. At full time score was 1-0 in favor of the home side.
