Mumbai FC hosted their state rivals DSK Shivajians in the first Maharashtra derby and the opening game for both the teams.
Both the teams came against each other in the Hero I-league campaign of 2017 at Cooperage Stadium on Sunday evening in Mumbai. Mumbai FC won the battle by just one goal and started the season with a win.
DSK started off pretty well dominating on the ball possession. DSK played around well for the starting mins of the game, but could not keep the same composure mins later against Mumbai FC’s energetic boys. As soon as the home side started dominating, they got the break through in the 21st min with Thoi Singh. Reagan Singh’s initial shot was blocked at the box which came to Thoi Singh for a volley and was converted into a goal.
Mins later visitors came inch close for an equalizer with a free kick. Mumbai FC conceded a free kick rite out side the box. Barraso took the free kick, but was cleared away by Kattimani. DSK again had an attempt for the equalizer. This time through their new signing Kim Song Yong. His header on the goal was again saved by Kattimani. Home side had the majority of the ball possession and which resulted in an opportunity for their second goal. Mumbai’s captain, Steven Dias’ precisely crossed looking for Victorino Ferandes who almost scored, but was off target.
In the final few mins, visitors pushed themselves to threaten the Mumbai side by continuously creating chances for an equalizer. Mumbai FC somehow held on to their lead and ended the match with their first win.
At full time the score was 1-0 in favor of Mumbai FC.
