Chennai City FC hosted Minerva Punjab FC in the Hero I-League 2017 campaign on the match day 2.
Both the teams are the newest clubs to compete in the league this season. CCFC and MPFC were happy enough to share a point each from their opening game on Sunday at Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Chennai. The match ended in a goalless draw, as neither of the team were able to break through.
Minerva Punjab FC made a good start of the game, but it was Chennai City FC which had the first chance of the game to score through Charles cross into the box in 5th min. Chennai’s strikers failed to score from the set piece. In 5 mins again, home side again had a great chance to take the lead. Lalnun Mawia tried his chance from a free header, but landed straight into the hands of the visitor’s goal keeper. Karanjit was excellent on the home side goal, who saved a shot on goal by Manandeep few mins later.
In the 34th min, Lalnun Mawia had the best chance of the evening. Haroon Amiri’s cross was first blocked, which came on the feet of Lalnun Mawia. Mawia failed to get his on the score sheet as his left footer landed straight into the hands of Ravi Kumar. The game seemed mostly in the midfield area, neither of the team moving to create a chance.
At the half time mark, score stayed 0-0. Few mins into the second half, Charles went close to the goal, but was denied by the alert defenders. Then it was Amiri in the 60th min who made a good run into the visitor’s box. He too was denied by the defense line. The Brazilian got into few scoring positions nearing end of the game, but could not hit the target.
Final score of the game was 0-0, with points shared by both the teams.
