Mohun Bagan hosted Shillong Lajong FC in their second match of the Hero I-League campaign of 2017 at Rabindra Sarovar Stadium in Kolkata.
Mohun Bagan defeated Shillong Lajong FC to get their second consecutive win and to top the points table with 6 points. Whereas Shillong Lajong FC hit the bottom of the table with two loses in two games and with no points.
Bagan started off pretty well with more attacking index. In the 17th min, Raynier Fernandes cut in nicely from the right to find Katsumi on his pass. Katsumi’s attempt on goal went just gliding away from the target. Visitors also created few chances with their moves. U-22 player Bipin Singh tried his luck from distance, but was unable to hit the target. Few mins later, Isaac Chhachhuak wasted a goal scoring opportunity from a free-kick. In the 21st min, Duffy got the break through goal. Duffy’s attempt on the goal was enough to beat the visiting keeper Vishal Kaith and hit the net. Mins later Lajong created a chance for the goal. Fabio Pena, header went just over the crossbar, assisted by Isaac. Score at half time stayed 1-0 in favor of the home side.
Second half saw Lajong with the dominance. Visitors created more opportunities. Soon in the first min of the second half, Dipanda just missed the goal from his header. Lajong seemed to hold on with ball more and looked dominating. On the other end, Souvik Chakraborty crossed in from the wing to find Balwant Singh, who headed it into the hands of Vishal. In 68th min, Bagan came inches close to double their lead with Katsumi and Balwant, but Dan denied their attempt.
It was Bagan who found the break through again with the struggle. Duffy scored his second goal of the evening. Balwant’s layoff helped him to find the nets gain. With this goal, it was all over for the visitors. Lajong had few attempts in search of a goal, but were unsuccessful in the try.
