I-League: Chennai City 2 – 0 Aizawl FC: Chennai City grab the first win of the season

Chennai City FC claimed the first 3 points of the season against Aizawl FC.

Marcos Thank scored the first goal of the match for the home side(53′) and a late penalty was converted by Charles de Souza(90+4′) which sealed the win for Chennai City FC.

A boring start to the match as both sides were opting to play long balls and neither side threatened the other.
The first attempt on goal was for Chennai FC as a cross from Raju found Edwin at the edge of the box,whose volley sent the ball wide.

Aizawl were picking up their game more and tried pushing but neither side made effective attempts on goal until the first half came to an end.

The second half started off with Chennai FC,who got the opener out of nothing at the 53rd minute when Tank took a shot on goal from 25 yards out with the ball dipping down and finding the goal while the keeper did not move a muscle.

Aizawl FC fought back aggressively to find an equalizer and got many opportunities. Lalruatthara’s header towards goal bounced off the crossbar and a shot from Al Amna heading for the top corner was palmed away by the keeper,Abhra Mondal.

The next dramatic moments of the match came at injury time when Charles was brought down by Kingsley inside the box,giving the home side a penalty. Charles calmly placed the ball down the middle giving his side the lead.

The aftermath was a sore sight as a tackle from Kingsley on Prasanth caused outrage on the home side and players from both sides got involved in a scuffle.

The referee finally blew the whistle with the score reading
