Bengaluru FC played North Korean team April 25 sports club in the regional semifinals of the AFC Cup.
The first leg of the tie was played at the Shree Kanteerva Stadium in Bengaluru. BFC ran out as comfortable winners, who now take a 3-0 advantage to the second leg.
BFC new boy and India’s number one Gurpreet Singh started in goal, a defense of Khabra, Juanan, new boy Rahul Bheke, and Nishu Kumar in front of him.
The midfield was Lenny and the two new foreign recruits Paartalu and Dimas Delgado.
Udanta Singh started up front with Another new foreign signing Antonio on the right and Captain Sunil Chhetri on his usual left.
The game started brightly and BFC dominated possession, and just when 4.25 were getting into the game Udanta’s pace won a penalty as he reached the ball before the onrushing keeper. Sunil Chhetri calmly slotted the ball home in the 32nd minute as he chipped it down the middle. The first half ended 1-0.
BFC had dominated the first half in every way, possession and shots on target, and they began the second in the same way. Some good quality pressing from the home side resulted in Udanta winning the ball near the midfield and running all the way to the goal and finishing it himself.
Bengaluru then witnessed some fierce rains and the pitch conditions became near unplayable, yet through some clever use of the conditions Chhetri drove into the opposition box in the 78th minute and chipped a perfect ball for Lenny to finish on the slide, 3-0 and BFC can just about see themselves in the regional finals.
Unfortunately for captain An Il-Bom and his team they were the second best on the day, and have their task cut out for them in the second leg.
