FC Pune City played their first game of the Hero Indian Super League season 4 against Delhi Dynamos FC at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Stadium in Pune yesterday (22/11/2017).
Delhi Dynamos FC won against the home side, FC Pune City with a score line of 2-3 with Chhangte being the star of the show. Chhangte on his debut, scored a goal for himself and showed his capability to play in seniors teams against the giants of the game.
Delhi kicked off the first half. Immediately after the kick-off whistle, Jewel Raja Sheik went down to ground holding his grown which got pulled during the warm session. Jewel Raja, even after the pull, wanted to start for the home side. But he couldn’t even play for second. Baljeeth Singh replaced him having his first start for Pune City in this season.
Lucca was the first to make an attempt in the 2nd minute, on Delhi’s goal, with a shot going straight into the hands of visitor’s goalkeeper, Albino Gomes. This was the early test for Gomes. As the game went on, both teams seemed to push each-other’s defense and play the attacking game. In the 5th minute, Pune came up with good play with Marcelo creating a chance for his side with a good control of the pass and with assist. The cross was blocked by the Delhi defense resulting in a corner for the home side. Again in the next minute, home side got a free-kick. Chance well created through the free-kick as a heading chance came to Carlos. But the header was over the cross bar.
In the next minute, Delhi too built an attack from the left wing with Ralte. A well timed cross into Delhi’s box was cut down by the defense but wasn’t cleared well. The attempted clearance came to Marcelo whose poor shot was off target and did not cause much problems for the home side. Delhi Dynamos had settled themselves with good ball position and good passes. But FC Pune City held their defense line well to block all the chances being created by the visitors.
Both the teams played good passes with few cheap giveaways, but neither of the teams making a good out of those passes. In 13th minute, Preetam Kotal came up with a high lofted cross from the right wing into Delhi’s box. But that the well collected by Kamaljeeth. Delhi made quite a few attacks on the home side, but the defense line and goalkeeper stood strong to cut down the attacks and clearing off the ball well.
Left wingers of both the teams were playing a good game with positive runs and crosses to threaten eachother’s goal-line. Fanai of FC Pune City made good overlapping runs with his left winger and Ralte of Delhi assisting his left winger, Chhangte with passes and support.
At half time, no change was made to the score board, thus showing a nil nil result.
Delhi came back positively into the second half. Home with the kick off, but the visitors quickly making a chance for themselves. Ralte and Chhangte of Delhi again coming together created a chance from the far left. Chhangte made a very good cross in Pune’s box, in the opening minute of the second half, finding one of his two strikes, Paulo Henrique Dias Da Cruz and Kalu Uche. It was Paulo to make Chhangte’s cross count and heade in well to get his side on the lead. Reading the cross well, Paulo came in front of his defender and placed the ball at the bottom of the goal. After the first goal, Pune players were frustrated because of the miss passes happening and they not creating any chances. But the home side had a hope and kept the game going with keeping the ball with them and trying to play a possession game.
Chhangte of Delhi, was on his best with creating good chances and making good runs on the wing along with few good crosses. The defense of Pune City were always there to cut off his crosses and other assists on time. As the game went on, home side made a miss pass in the midfield and Paulo was well present to read that miss pass and charge on the ball. Gurtej tried to clear the ball but missed the ball completed. Chhangte stayed allert and immediately went to ball and made a brilliant run into the box of Pune and doubled the lead for his side with a calm finish in the 53rd minute, just chipping it over the goalkeeper who was off his line trying to cut down the chance. Chhangte became the goal scorer this time after a assist for the first goal.
Delhi came up with a series of well organised passes and built up the game for their third goal. In the 65th minute, Matias Mirabaje was the one who got the third for the visitors. Matias Mirabaje, with all the intention of shooting, cut in well from the right to make space for few touches and shot. With his left foot, he just added a little swing to his shot which ended in the left top corner of Pune’s goal. An absolutely beautiful goal by Dynamo’s midfielder to put his side on a three nil lead.
Soon in the 66th minute, Pune got themselves a goal with Alfaro. A cross from the far right was well taken down by Alfaro on his feet just inside the box. He held on to the ball for a second and made himself room and on the turn to his right, he shot a left footer which was deflected by the Delhi defense and ended into the back of the visitor’s net. This goal brought back a little hope for the home side . Now it was the turn of the visiting side to play miss passes and giving away possession to the home side.
But the visiting side still kept on attacking and creating few more chances to increase their lead. In the process, a good cross from the right by Uche to find his mate inside Pune’s box, his header was over the cross bar. In the 77th minute, Chhangte again with his good form and dribbling skills made a run inside Pune’s box, and attempted a cross but it was collected easily by Pune’s goalkeeper as the pass lacked some pace.
Delhi Dynamos threatened the home side again when a brilliant through ball from midfield to Jeroen Lumu seemed to turn into another goal. But Fanai cut down the threat by a sliding clearance inside the box. % extra minutes were added to the regular 90 minute game. Pune City were trying to get back into the game. In the process, he home side scored again. Attack coming from the far right of Pune City, gave a chance to Marcelo to create a finishing chance for Marcos Tebar on the close to the line. Marcos Tebar made it 2-3 in the dying seconds of the game (90+5).
This was the very last action of the game. And at full time the score was 2-3 favoring the visitors.
