I-League : The newbies, Indian Arrows took on Chennai City FC in their first encounter of the Hero I-league 2017-18 at GMC Bambalim Stadium in Goa.
The young U-17 world cup players are now representing in the top division of the Indian football with a team naming Indian Arrows. The youngsters brought in all their world cup experience into the match today as they played against the last season’s new team Chennai City FC.
Indian Arrows played on well with good ball position and passing the ball around created chances and moving up. Chennai City looked threatened as the newbies were building the game. Indian Arrows had a position of 67%.
Indian Arrows scored their first Hero I-league goal in the 18th minute. A chance created from the right wing by Boris gave Aniketh a chance to open the scoring. Boris’s cross inside the box missed its target and came to Aniketh instead who just curled the ball to far bottom with his right foot.
This goal was a wake call for the visitors. Chennai City FC initiated back to attacks on Indian Arrows’s goal. But Dheeraj and his defense line held themselves to stop the attacks and cut down the chances. In the 21st, minute Dheeraj made a good save to stop Junior of Chennai who got in a shot with his right foot. In the 23rd minute, home team almost made it 2-0. A miss pass by the visiting side was well read by Jersey number 6 of the home side and quickly grabbed the ball and looked for a pass to Edmund. Edmund’s chip in shot just went away from the far post missing the goal.
In the 44th minute, Chennai came up with a chance from the a long cross from the left wing looking for Junior. Junior was little away to get a proper touch on the ball to score in. Indian Airways were well organised were playing for every ball. They seemed tireless as the game went on. Dheeraj stayed on his his brilliant performance which he had in the U-17 WC two months back.
At half time, score was, Indian Arrows 1-0 Chennai City FC.
In the second half, Chennai showed a little more calm game with keeping the ball possession. Visitors made their first attempt on goal in the 55th minute when Edwin tried a shot on goal. The shot was well saved by Dheeraj.
In the 57th minute, Aniketh doubled the lead for side by placing in the ball swiftly behind the nets. A cross back by Suresh, inside the Chnnai’s box was collected well by Aniketh to place it first time. Aniketh timed his run well enough to reach the ball first before any the Chennai defenders could clear the ball. Indian Arrows still had a good ball possession. Chennai’s players, though being older than the Indian Arrows players, struggled to get the ball out of their possession. Home team were clearly playing a good passing game. Indian Arrow players were fast enough to get the ball back whenever they lost the position and always had a good man to man marking.
In the 63rd minute, Gurpreet of Chennai had a chance on the shot from a long distance. But he couldn’t keep the ball on target. Again in the 65th minute, Chennai won a free-kick. Gurpreet took the free-kick and was close to scoring. His free-kick shot managed to get pass through the wall, but couldn’t see the back of then nets as the cross bar came to the rescue of the home side.
Chennai had couple of chances with Junior at the end of the ball. Junior made good runs and collected good balls, but the end results weren’t satisfying. Chennai were completely under pressure by the young boys as the game went on. Chennai occassionally won free-kicks. But they couldn’t make anything good out of them.
As the game went on, Indian Arrows created and missed few chances of scoring, with good series of passes and good build up. The newbies were seeming difficult to be beaten by the Chennai City FC.
After few miss passes, missed goals and fouls, in the 88th minute, Indian Arrows scored their third of the evening. This time it was Boris to score his first of the season. An attack built from the far right was almost cut down by the Chennai Defenders. But Boris’s presence of mind gave him chance to get the ball out of the defender’s leg and place it cleverly into the far corner. This was the last action of the game, as their no real chances created in the 3 added minutes by either side.
