Northeast United FC hosted Bengaluru FC in the fourth edition of the Hero Indian Super League at Indira Gandhi Stadium in Guwahati today (8/12/2017).
Bengaluru FC kicked-off the game holding on to the ball well and kept it moving without rushing in for the goal. Home side attacked immediately whenever they had the ball back. In the process, Danilo took the first shot of the game from distance. Ralte came out with a comfortable save at the end. Ralte got the position on goal as Gurpreet Singh Sandhu was suspended in the previous game and Mandal is suffering from an injury. Ralte gave out his best with great saves to keep his side in the game.
Bengaluru FC had a good ball possession and they did not rush for the goal. In the 8th minute they created their first chance of the game with a through ball to Sunil over the defenders, but referee immediately blew the whistle as the line referee had his flag raised for off side. Again in the 13th minute, Miku had a chance to score the opener. But a good piece of defending by northeast denied him from making any damage on the goal. In the process Miku managed to get a toe pock on the ball which went away from the post resulting in a goal kick for the home side.
Bengaluru FC looked good on ball with good series of passes played in the midfield and on the defense line. 20 minutes on the clock and another chance came to the skipper Sunil. A similar chance created as previous, this time Sunil managed to stay on side and grab the ball. He made himself a space to shoot under pressure. But his left footer went straight to TP Rehenesh who grabbed it eventually. Sunil should have done better with the opportunity, but did his best.
On the other hand, Lopes with another shoot threatened the visitors, but the shot went straight to Ralte for a comfortable save. Visiting side still had a better ball position. In the 30th minute, a clearance mistake near the touch line by John Johnson gave Lopes a chance to charge for the ball and execute a shot. But the shot again ended up in the safe hands of Ralte. Ralte was on top of his game with making some good saves. Another delicious save in the 40th minute by Ralte made both teams enter the break with nil nil score line. A good chance for Lopes again was well denied by Ralte with managing to get a touch on the ball with fingers, conceding a corner.
At half time score was nil nil.
The second half was kicked-off by the home side. Just 90 seconds into the game, home side conceded a goal due to a clearance mistake. A back pass to Rehenesh was held on for a little long time. Rehenesh’s pass was poor on the left as Udanta was able to charge for it and make a first time pass to Miku inside the box. Miku very calmly placed the ball to the left bottom corner on a touch. Miku now has four goals from his four appearances. BFC initiated a series of attacks threatening the home side. But couldn’t beat the defense line for the second time.
Northeast United FC were pushing high and moved the ball well to create chances. Marcinho had his luck tried with couple of chances. But his shots were off target and made no damage to BFC’s goal. In the 60th minute home side had almost broken the dead lock if John Johnson would have not made a crucial interception to cut down a through ball from Marcinho to Lopes. BFC then struggled to get the ball out of their half for over three minutes. Northeast United continuously knocked the doors of the visitor’s goal, but were denied every time by the well set up defense line.
In the 83rd minute, BFC had a great chance to double the lead. Nobrega’s decision of not taking a first time shot paid him a wrong result. His shot after a cut in was blocked by Lalrindika. Both the teams had good chances in the last few minutes of the game. But neither were able to get through the well defending line up. In the last 7 minutes, home side launched a series of attacks on BFC. Every chance was cut down by visiting team. In 90th minute, Ralte came up with an amazing save to keep the scoreline 0-1. Lopes had the chance of getting the equalizer. But he was again denied by Ralte.
At full time, score was, Northeast United FC 0-1 Bengaluru FC.
