FC Pune City took on Kerala Blasters FC today (2/2/2018) in the Hero Indian Super League Season 4 at Balewadi Sports Complex in Pune.
Visitors started the first half and maintained the pressure on Pune back line creating build up, and as they did, CK Vineet had a chance inside Pune’s box from a cross. But Vineet could not execute the shot after a good control on his chest. 7 minutes on the clock, Pune made their first attack to test Subhasheesh on Kerala’s goal line. A shot from Diego was well saved by Subhasheesh on the the left post. Hume had a great chance inside Pune’s box after Vishal missed to clear the ball first time. Hume however couldn’t make that opportunity count as he squared the ball for a pass which was little too far an fast for Vineet to tap it in.
On the 40 minute mark, Alfaro had great great chance to score the first of the evening. A good over head ball to Alfaro was well taken by him to make space for a shot, but a powerful shot went way off target causing no damage to the Kerala’s goal. Immediately on the other end, a good first time cross by Jackie was well dealt with before Hume could make any danger for the home side.
Ranko Popovic had to leave the side line and place himself in the stands for a harsh argument against the referee in the added minutes of the half. This was the second time he was sent out by the referee this season. An action packed half ended in a nil nil score line.
Home team took the second half under way with same tempo as in the first half. In the 54th minute, Marcelinho took a wonderful strike on target from distance which hit the wood work and stayed in the game to save the visitor’s day. Four minutes later, Jackie opened the scoring with a thundering strike from outside the box to get the left top corner of the goal after beating Vishal on the line.
An end to end action packed game was witnessed by the fans as both the teams were creating chances on the either end. Again in the 72nd minute, Marcelinho took another shot to the far post which was well saved by Roy on the goal to concede a corner. Pune raised themselves to create good chances and get the equalizer. But they somehow couldn’t beat the strong Kerala defense.
In the 77th minute, Pune were finally awarded a penalty after Alfaro was brought down by Roy inside the box. Alfaro then stepped on to take the spot kick and converted the chance into the equalizer next minute. CK Vineet was next to blast a shot on goal which went straight into the arms of Vishal on the line. On the other end, Marcelinho again tried his luck with a volley. Roy managed to handle the shot well again.
In the 3rd minute of the added four, Marcelinho was again denied by the wood work after a good on target shot. But it was CK Vineet to hit the back of the nets on the other end early in the 94th minute. Pekuson’s overhead ball was brought down well by CK on the run and was well shot in the left top corner of the goal after a touch.
