One time champions, Chennaiyin FC hosted the current table toppers Bengaluru FC in the Hero Indian Super League season 4 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai today (6/2/2018)
Bengaluru FC kicked off the first half with straight away into the attack and immediately got the break. In the 2nd minute a cross from the far right flank by Khabra was well headed back by Sunil to assist the new boy Boithang who manage to swift the ball into the nets through Karnjith’s legs. Visitors immediately launched another attack after Chennai’s kick-off. Miku managed to make a good pass to Sunil inside CFC’s box for a tap in. But Sunil’s side foot attempt was blocked well to push off the danger.
In the 15th minute, Gregory made a good long run with the ball and initiated a shot, but away from the target. Both the teams tried to settle down and hold the ball possession for the build up. Gurpreet came into action in the 21st minute with a good save to stop the shot taken by Nelson from distance. In the 28th minute, Bengaluru FC had another great chance to double the lead. But none of the BFC player could come on the ball for the finishing touch. Visitors had the upper hand on the ball possession and continued to cause problems for the home side.
In the 32nd minute, equalizing goal was scored by Fernandes with a header to direct the cross from far left flank towards the goal. CFC continued to pressurize the visitors even after the goal. At half time scores were, Chennaiyin FC 1-1 Bengaluru FC
Home team dominated the second half with creating good chances but couldn’t just beat the strong defense of BFC. But it was Miku to score the second for the BFC in the 66th minute. A chance created from a free kick taken by Dimas was well shot on target by Sunil, but Karnajith managed to save the shot, but the deflection came to Miku on the line and he very easy pushed the ball back to the nets.
In the 71st minute, Cereno was penalized the second yellow and marching off orders for his challenge on Miku to stop and bring him down. 4 minutes later, Khabra brought down Dhanpal Ganesh inside his own box giving away a penalty. Jeje stepped on to take the penalty next minute, but failed to convert the chance into a goal. Gurpreet managed to guess the kick right to save it and deny CFC to get the equalizer. BFC stretched the game wide to keep a good ball possession with moving around the ball well.
Sunil had a great chance to score the third for his side. A good strong defensive work by Mailson to somehow deny Sunil to take the shot and Sunil’s shot was blocked well. But he did not miss the next chance of a tap in assisted by Udanta. Karnajith missed to stop Udanta to assist Sunil who was standing unmarked on the far post. Sunil calmly put the ball in the ending seconds.
