Mumbai’s playoff hopes are on

ATK hosted Mumbai City FC in the Hero Indian Super League season 4 Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Sunday (18-02-2018)

Both teams had a very mediocre game at the opening minutes without any serious attacking game play. In the 18th minute, Mumbai had their first shot on target, Achille Emana gathered a loose ball at the edge of the penalty box and sliced the ball, but it travelled straight to the ATK Soram Poirei, who deflected it away.

At the 20th minute, ATK almost scored a goal as Jayesh Rane’s through ball sent Conor Thomas goalwards. Conor took a shot but the ball found its way straight to Amrinder on the line. In the 32nd minute Rozario struck a powerful free kick from the edge of the the box. Although Poirei managed to get a touch on the ball, it managed to find its way to the nets.

Mumbai’s game baffled the home team as immediately after their first goal at the 37th minute, Emana took a free kick from the left, but Poirei managed to deflect it outside. The resulting corner found its way to Gerson Viera who took a shot on the target but was comfortably gathered by Poirei.

At the end of the first half, the score was ATK 0-1 Mumbai City FC.

The home team equalized just after two minutes into the second half when Connor Thomas played the ball to Bipin Singh, and as Amrinder charged towards the ball, the striker very calmly slotted the ball through his legs.

In the 54th minute Sanju Pradhan delivered a ball from the left and Rafa jumped high enough and headed it beautifully inside the goal, at the far post. In the 66th minute Emana struck another powerful shot from a long distance away from the goal, it gave Poirei enough time to judge the ball and save it from finding its way into the nets.

After this the visitors played a defensive game, and their motto was to hold the game and prevent the home team from scoring the equalizing goal

ATK kept attacking but couldn’t find an opening inspite of Ryan Taylors powerful free kick which hit the cross bar. This was the last chance they had. At the end of the match the score was, ATK 1-2 Mumbai City FC.
