FC Goa thrashed ATK with a 5-1 score line at home

FC Goa hosted ATK in the Hero Indian Super League season 4 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa on Wednesday (28-02-2018)

It was a must win game for Goa as the race to the play-offs is getting intense, if Goa managed to win this match along with the coming match, they would reserve a spot for themselves in the play-offs.

ATK made a positive start to the game, not losing possession and keeping the ball in Goa’s half.

In the 9th minute, Manuel Lanzarote ran through the right wing and crossed the ball inside but nobody was there to receive it, yet Hugo recovered it and crossed it again and the keeper deflected it. At the 10th minute Goa scored their first goal as Hugo curled in a sweet corner, Sergio Juste headed it into the net and just like that Goa were in the lead.

In the next 5 minutes, Goa scored another goal, and thus intimidating ATK. Mandar Rao cut the ball inside the penalty area and the keeper beautifully deflected it, but the defense line was missing and Lanzarote got the ball and kicked it in smoothly.

In the 21st minute, when Pronay Halder kicked the ball diagonally 50 yards from the defense line, Lanzarote received the ball and kicked it in the far corner, the keeper standing had no chance to save it.

The first 20 minutes and the score is 3-0

At the 29th minute , the game had its first booking as Singh intervenes a sliding tackle. His appeal was not entertained by the referee, at the 37th minute Edu Bedia is booked for a high boot on Rupert Nongrum.

The game was getting ugly as Prabir Das wildly kicked Mandar Rao on his calf and got booked for the clumsy challenge.

At the 45th minute, there was another attempt by Goa to score a goal when Coro tried converting Lanzarotes loft pass into a shot but the straight shot saw the keeper saving it comfortably.

At the end of half time, Goa had a three goal lead. Jordi Montel was booked immediately at the start off the second half as he made a rash challenge on Coro, in the 50th minute Robbie Keane was booked as he raised his foot too high and caught Halder, resulting in another yellow.

The ref had been busy since the start of the second half as Zequinha and Nongrum were booked too.

It was raining yellows in Goa, in the 64th minute Coro scores his first goal as he uses the wall as a distraction to the keeper and belts the ball in the bottom right corner

In the 87th minute ATK scored their first goal, depriving Goa of their much deserved clean sheet as Keane shot the ball which was deflected by the defender and the ball was into the nets.

In the 90th minute Sifneos scored a goal as the keeper played a long ball to him, he ran forward and past the keeper and placed it inside the goal

At the final whistle the score is 5-1.
