Bengaluru FC hosted FC Pune City in the second leg of the first semi final of the Hero Indian Super League season 4 at the Sree Kanteerva Stadium in Bengaluru today (11/03/2018)
Bengaluru fortress was filled with the blue army along with the travelling orange army to watch their teams enter the finals of the ISL season 4. The team in blue got the game under way with attacking from left to right on the screen. Teams looked to settle as they tried to build up the game.
Sunil had the first golden chance of the game in the 3rd minute as Udanta got in low cross to the far post spotting the run of the skipper. But Sunil failed to convert the chance into the goal. On the other end in the next minute, Gurpreet Singh made a splendid save to stop the shot taken by Diego and concede a corner. The resulting corner was lofted over the cross bar by Sahil with a poor shot.
It was in the 15th minute, when Sunil finally managed to get his name on the score sheet. It was again Udanta to assist his skipper with a skillful cross from the right flank to allow Sunil to raise up head the ball into the far post. A fumble close to the goal line by Vishal and his defense allowed the ball clear the goal line.
In the 26th minute, Vishal Kaith’s decision of coming off his line to clear the long ball away played to Sunil seemed to be the best decision so far to save the day for his side. In the 29th minute, Marcelo drilled in cross close to BFC’s goal line after Alfaro managed to feed in the ball for Marcelo. But the cross ended in a through in for the home team on the other side.
Udanta looked dangerous on the right flank with number of great crosses he got in, but his crosses weren’t quite converted by his strikers. Sunil again came into action with good header which was inch away from the goal. Set pieces proved to be profitable for the home side as they managed to knock Pune’s doors often.
At the end of the first 45 minutes, one extra minute was added, which did not change the scores as it remained 1-0 favoring the home team.
Visitors took the second half going with immediately loosing the position of the ball as they tried to launch an attack from the kick-off. Sarthak got in a good cross from the right flank spotting Alfaro’s run. Alfaro managed to get a header, but wasn’t on target.
In the 51st minute, Udanta launched a good shot trying his luck. But the shot resulted in a goal kick for the visitors. Five minutes later, Sunil again tried his luck with a shot from inside the box, which was saved by Vishal at the end after a slight deflection by his defenders.
In the 64th minute, Sunil was brought down by Sarthak inside his box get a penalty for his side. Chhetri then took a calm and composed penalty as he chipped the ball over the keeper into the nets for the second time and to take BFC another step closer to the finals. Rahul, in the 67th minute, was next to come up with spectacular volley on target from distance. But thankfully for the visitors the ball hit the cross bar to save it for the visitors.
In the 73rd minute, Vishal made a good save to stop Sunil’s curling shot from inside the box. Vishal again had to come off his line in the 75th minute to clear a dangerous ball fed over the defense line to find Miku at the end. Marcelo in the 81st minute had a chance to take a shot on target, which he did, but failed to get any power on the shot and to beat Gurpreet Singh on the line.
In the 82nd minute, Pune got themselves into the game as they pulled back one goal from a brilliant free-kick taken by the substitute Lucca. The ball was perfectly sent over the wall and Gurpreet Singh into the top corner of the goal.
In the 87th minute, a glorious opportunity was missed by the home team when Vishal came off his line and Sunil was on the chase. Vishal missed the ball which came to Segovia who unfortunately tripped over the ball and failed to make his mark on the game.
Sunil came out to save his side with scoring a beautiful goal. It was Dimas to assist Sunil this time providing a overhead ball to Sunil. Sunil managed to take a touch, beat the defender and place the ball into the nets.
Four minutes were added at the end of the regular 90 minutes. But it was all Bengaluru FC in the ending minutes to get themselves into the finals of their debut season of the Hero Indian Super League.
