Chennaiyin FC hosted Northeast United FC in the Hero Indian Super League season 5 at the Marina Arena in Chennai today.
Visitors kicked-off the first half with trying to make an early mark on the game, but home team got the lead in the 4th minute from a corner. An attempted clearance by Rowllin Borges unfortunately turned into the first goal for the Chennaiyins as his header sent the ball straight into the nets. Chennaiyin dominated the game for few minutes there after and the highlanders made few attempts for the equalizer. It was an intense match as the highlanders looked for their first and Chennaiyins looked for the second of the game.
Chennaiyin FC doubled their lead in the 15th minute from a counter attack built up from the far left. It was Thoi Singh with the final touch on the ball to score his first of the game. Both the teams had a pretty rough game with few rough tackles conceding free-kicks very often. In the 29th minute, Highlanders final scored the first goal as Chennaiyin struggled to clear the ball from their box. Ogbeche charged on to block the attempted clearance which turned out to be the chance which he converted into the goal.
As Northeast United were looking a come back, Chennaiyin scored the third with Rapheal setting up for Thoi with brillaint skills in the box. Thoi managed to score after his back flip attempt was missed. Pace of the game increased with same intensity and rough tackles. Northeast United FC made it hard for the home team to settle and keep possession as they maintained high pressure game and well timed tackles.
In the 37th minute, Ogbeche scored the second when Rowllin found him at the end of his cross inside CFC’s box. Ogbeche brilliantly brought the ball down with an excellent first touch on the chest and sending it into the nest on the far post. Two minutes later, Ogbeche scored his third by cutting pass through Karanjith after he got a through ball from the center and making himself a big space to push the ball into the empty nets.
First half ended with couple of yellow cards and 6 goals.
Chennaiyin FC kicked off the second half and held on to the ball possession patiently for first couple of minutes. But it was Rowllin Borges to score the seventh goal of the game and 4th for his team. Jerry failed to clear the ball properly which fell to Rowllin who took a touch and placed the ball into the far post. Game went on with both the teams sharing almost equal ball possession. Home team struggled to get the equalizing goal as the highlanders defended well and maintained the high pressure game.
73 minutes on the clock, home team got in a series of attacks but couldn’t create any real chance whatsoever even though they had maximum possession. Second half had no any interesting actions as in first half. Then in the 90th minute Jeje missed a tap in opportunity with an out stretch right next to the goal.
The game came to an end with a 3-4 scoreline favoring the highlanders.
