Delhi Dynamos FC took on Northeast United FC on the match-day 23 of the Hero Indian Super League season 5 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi today.
Delhi Dynamos FC had drawn 3 and lost 2 out of their 5 matches and stood 8th on the points table where as the highlanders have had a pretty good start to their campaign as they stood 2nd with 8 points from their 4 games. Highlanders kicked off the first half in their away color and Delhi in their whites as they looked to win this one.
In the second minute, Juan Mascia made a good run down the left side which looked dangerous for the home side. But it was dealt well by the Delhi defense with a little help of Juan himself as he failed to release the ball seconds before. 3 minutes later, Delhi registered the first on target shot from a far distance. Gianni was the man to hit it first time as he saw Pawan off his line after he had a bad clearance and sending the ball right to Gianni. But Pawan managed to come back and grab the ball on the line. Seconds later, Ogbeche was denied by the cross bar on the other end when he looked for a curler from a lay off. Ways of attacks came in on either ends, but neither of the teams found the break through from those attacks.
Delhi’s game looked like a suicidal one as they kept on loosing the ball in their half and close their goal. Highlanders kept the gifted possession well to build the game and knock the doors couple of times. But it was still nil nil at the half an hour mark, despite of good chances for the visitors and plenty of give aways by the hosts.
In the 39th minute, Delhi had to put their bodies on the line to stop Northeast United FC from scoring. A good run and cross by Redeem from far right side to find Rowllin inside the box, who took a good touch to set himself up for a shot. The resulting corner for the highlanders was well taken and Fransisco had to make another excellent save to keep the scoreline nil nil and enter the break.
Second half kicked off with Delhi having the possession and earning an early corner which tested Pawan Kumar. Immediately on the other end, a terrible misunderstanding between Fransisco and Tebar gave highlanders chance to open the scoring. But the danger was somehow pushed away the Dynamos. Delhi dominated the possession despite of the mistake, but struggled to keep it for long enough against the pressure by the highlanders.
Northeast United FC kept coming closer to scoring, but couldn’t find the break through. In the 61st minute, Federico took a on target shot on a gamble inside Delhi’s box, which was saved comfortably by Fransisco on the line. Number of fouls increased as the game went on and the urge to get the winner from both the teams too increased.
In the 78th minute, a desperate defending by the highlanders stopped Delhi from scoring the first. Two minutes later, Ogbeche’s volley from Keegan’s cross was palmed away by Fransisco for a corner. Highlanders however took the lead in the 82nd minute when Federico came up with a sweet play and a sublime finish with his right foot. Atmosphere lit up in the capital after the goal and as Delhi desperately looked for the equalizer.
Highlanders held on to their 1-0 lead till 93 minutes right before they doubled their lead after a terrible clearance mistake by Pritam Kotal. After Kotal failed to clear the ball, Federico charged on to dribble up and assist Ogbeche for his sixth of the season.
At full-time score was Delhi Dynamos FC 0-2 Northeast United FC.
