Jamshedpur hosted Hyderabad at JRD Tata Sports Complex for game number 10 of the season.
Hyderabad came off a battering from ATK while Jamshedpur came into this game with an excellent win against Odisha. Hyderabad looked to brush off the previous game and take points from this game while Jamshedpur could go to the top of the table with a win.
Jamshedpur were underway at the Furnace with a strong start. Isaac’s shot from distance on the 7th minute was spilled by the keeper, but he was saved by the linesman who called for an offside. Kamaljitwas called into action again when Farukh made an excellent run behind the defense and shot on goal. Jamshedpur’s Piti too had a shot on goal which was a weak effort and did not trouble the keeper. However a shot blocked by Kamaljit fell right in front of the goal on the 33rd minute. Farukh pounced on the ball and converted his chance to put the miners in the lead. It was a failed clearance by Hyderabad and an excellent play by Piti that created the goal.
But against the run of play, Hyderabad scored in the dying minutes of time added on (45’ +2). Marcelinho dashed past Pereira in the box and shot on goal. A poor effort by Subrata saw the ball end up at the back of the net.
Jamshedpur could have taken the lead in the second half, when substitute Aniket missed his target from point blank range. It was an excellent ball into the box by Castel but a poor attempt by the youngster. All he needed to do was to keep it on target. But the hosts took the lead anyway on the 61st minute. This time Aniket showed his finishing capabilities when his shot hit the top of the net and put Jamshedpur back the in the lead. There was nothingKamaljit could do about it.
Jamshedpur added to their tally on the 74th minute when Castel sent the Hyderabad defenders the wrong way and tucked his effort into the net. The quality of the Spaniard was on display for the 20,000 fans at the furnace. It was wave after wave for the Hyderabad defense. Farukh could have bagged another goal but his attempt was saved by the keeper. Hyderabad never really settled into the game.
They barely had any clear cut opportunities in the second half. The team lacked the quality which the hosts had in all departments. The referee blew the whistle for full time and it was back to back wins for Jamshedpur. This put them on top of the ISL table and made them serious contenders for the playoffs. However, it was back to the drawing board for Phil Brown and his team as he had to find solutions quickly. Farukh was named “Hero of the Match” for his goal and assist in the game.
