Northeast United continued their unbeaten run this season, courtesy an 86th minute defensive error by Hyderabad full back Shankar Sampingiraj. The Highlanders were awarded a penalty and Maximiliano Barreiro relished the opportunity to score his first goal of the season; putting Northeast United ahead at the dying moments of the game. An away win at the G.M.C. Balayogi Athletic Stadium in Hyderabad placed the visiting team at the top of the table.
The hosts looked very confident in the opening half of the game. Marcelo Pereira was denied by a diving Subhashish Roy in the 5th minute. Despite having 5 shots on target in the opening half an hour of the game Hyderabad offered a lot of open space and free run to the opponents.
