Mumbai City FC on Thursday lost their 2nd consecutive game, dropping down to 5th position in the league.
It was a dominant performance by the Gaurs away from home. Constant pressure from the visitors forced errors in the Mumbai defense unit. Lenny Rodrigues broke the deadlock with a brilliant finish in the 27th minute for Goa. Aspiring to equalize Mumbai almost drew level through Diego Carlos. His attempt went slightly wide of the target. Trailing by a goal Mumbai had increased their work rate alarmingly; however just before the end of the first half Ferran Corominas doubled the lead for FC Goa. Seriton Fernandes deserved equal credit for the through ball, which was converted by the Spaniard.
Mumbai who started the second half with two goal deficit; scored their first goal of the game in the 49th minute through a set piece well converted by the Mumbai FC full back Sarthak Golui. An inspired Mumbai equalized in the 55th minute through Sauvik Chakrabarti, who fired it into the bottom left corner. Mumbai after equalizing lost momentum immediately and conceded a 3rd goal in the 59th minute. Hugo Boumous headed the ball into the goal post to take a 2 – 3 lead in the game. Boumous smashed his thigh on the goal post while scoring for the visitors and had to be replaced to avoid any further damage.
Carlos Pena hit the final nail in the coffin for Mumbai City FC in the 89th minute with a cheekey finish. Pena got the faintest of a touch to beat the goalkeeper, who could have done much better. Mumbai City who had a good start to the season, now have to analyze and come back quickly with a positive mindset. Losing two games and conceding 8 goals at home puts Jorge Costa Co. in a spot of bother.
